About
Steve Spencer is a skilled litigator with a notable career that spans four decades. His professional journey across various states, particularly California, has been marked by a steadfast dedication to justice and advocacy, earning him respect in both plaintiff and defense circles.
Steve has tried more than 100 cases to verdict, demonstrating his deep expertise across a broad spectrum of complex litigation. He has extensive experience handling wrongful death cases and serious injury cases involving brain damage, severe scarring, disc herniation, loss of limbs, and other life-changing losses. These cases have ranged from product liability to premises liability (slip and fall, assault and battery) to motor vehicle accidents.
In the 1990s, Steve was a partner in a defense firm retained by insurance companies and big business entities (restaurants, grocery stores, and machine companies). Before joining forces with CZ, Steve was a partner and lead trial attorney in a well-regarded Santa Monica plaintiff practice. Now Partner Emeritus at CZ, Steve Spencer continues to lend his expertise to the firm in an of counsel role.
Education
Steve's educational background laid the groundwork for his successful legal career, beginning with a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and culminating in a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he developed the skills that have served as the foundation of his legal practice.
Employment
Steve is esteemed within the legal community, evidenced by his Diplomate status with the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Membership in ABOTA is by invitation only and includes top plaintiff and defense attorneys.
Beyond the courtroom, Steve’s roles as a speaker on various practice topics, a mock trial judge, a mentor to newer attorneys, and a member of the faculty at the annual Jack Daniels ABOTA Trial School demonstrate his commitment to legal education and mentorship.
Additionally, Steve is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC), Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA), Riverside County Bar Association (RCBA), and American Association for Justice (AAJ). He is an honorary member of the Board of Governors of the Los Angeles Attorneys’ Charity and is a former member of the Board of Governors for CAOC.
