About

Shelby Kail Drymon is a dedicated personal injury lawyer who advocates for individuals whose lives have been disrupted by the negligence of others. Born and raised in northern New Jersey, she relocated to California to attend Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, where she developed a deep commitment to justice and advocacy for those in need. Known for her calm professionalism, exceptional legal research, persuasive writing, and unwavering dedication to her clients, Shelby is a valued member of Carpenter & Zuckerman’s trial team.

Shelby began her legal career at a prominent Los Angeles personal injury law firm, where she gained extensive experience with cases from inception through resolution. Her practice included drafting motions, briefs, trial documents, and demand letters, conducting discovery, and representing clients in court. Before focusing exclusively on personal injury, Shelby worked in surrogacy and reproductive law, where she negotiated and drafted contracts for intended parents and gestational carriers, prepared pre-birth order filings, and guided clients through the legal process with clarity and care.

During law school, Shelby served as a Certified Law Clerk with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, where she conducted preliminary hearings and assisted in trial preparation for serious felony cases, including a death penalty trial. She also contributed to the Pepperdine Restoration and Justice Clinic, providing legal services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

Outside the courtroom, Shelby enjoys travelling, spending time with her friends and family, and doting on her two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Libby and Leo. Though she proudly hails from New Jersey, she now happily calls Southern California home—especially when it means trading snow shovels for ocean views.

Education

In 2017, Shelby earned her Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California, where she also received a Certificate at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. She received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship, the CALI Award for Excellence in Arbitration Law, and membership in the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society, graduating cum laude in the top 20% of her class. During law school, she served as a research assistant studying domestic violence in the church, and as a staff member and Literary Citation Editor for the Pepperdine Law Review, where she authored “The Unintended Consequences of California Proposition 47: Reducing Law Enforcement’s Ability to Solve Serious, Violent Crimes” (44 Pepp. L. Rev., May 2017).

Shelby earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Criminology from Pennsylvania State University, where she was named to the Dean’s List and served on the executive board of Sigma Delta Tau. While at Penn State, Shelby also studied abroad at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, gaining a valuable international perspective before beginning her legal career.
