About
Khashak “Kash” Stepanian is a trial lawyer at Carpenter & Zuckerman who leverages strategic thinking, analytical depth, and a client-first mentality in every case he handles. With a background in personal injury, employment law, and civil litigation, Kash strategically advocates for individuals harmed by others’ negligence. His approach is grounded in rigorous legal research, tactical planning, and clear communication with clients. Drawing on over a decade of experience as a chess instructor, Kash has a keen ability to think several steps ahead— a skill he now uses to craft litigation strategies that protect and empower injury victims.
Before earning his J.D. and becoming a trial lawyer at Carpenter & Zuckerman, Kash served as a law clerk with the firm, supporting the litigation team on a wide range of personal injury cases. His work included drafting mediation briefs, preparing and responding to discovery, reviewing case files, and communicating directly with clients regarding case developments.
Prior to joining Carpenter & Zuckerman, Kash gained hands-on legal experience at several Southern California and Nevada-based law firms, supporting attorneys on matters involving personal injury, premises liability, employment law, and civil litigation. In those roles, he drafted complaints, motions, and legal memoranda; observed depositions and court proceedings; and conducted in-depth legal research. He also served as a research assistant at Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law, focusing on state and federal antitrust law.
Fluent in Armenian and conversational in Spanish, Kash is committed to serving clients from diverse backgrounds with empathy, cultural understanding, and clarity. Outside of the courtroom, he enjoys coaching others in self-development, playing piano, writing, and staying active in the chess community.
Education
Kash earned his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law in May 2025, along with a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute. He graduated in the top 50% of his class, earning notably high marks in key courses, including Legal Research & Writing, Ethical Lawyering, Mediation, Appellate Law, Civil Procedure, Torts, and Wills & Trusts. While at Pepperdine, he founded and served as president of the Pepperdine Law Chess Club and held multiple leadership roles in the Student Bar Association.
In June 2021, Kash received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating magna cum laude. He was named to the Dean’s Honor List for five quarters and served as Secretary of the UCLA Chess Club.
